“Dogs are better than most people” –

Are you feeling like Andrew sometimes? And who is Andrew? Last week the Toronto Star published an article about the importance pets play for Toronto’s homeless population. Andrew is 23 years old, living on the streets since he was 18.

Toronto Star: Andrew Johnston, 23, panhandles on Queen St. with his dog Smokey. Homeless since he was 18, Johnston says he’s much happier with Smokey to keep him company.

His dog gives him a feeling of need and connection. “I’m there for her and she’s there for me”, said Andrew. Click here for the full article

But while Andrew is hitting rock bottom in his life, pets are helping people all over the world to feel connected and loved. We have several homeless people living in Markham and our staff at our veterinary clinic is acutely aware of this problem.

Dogs are the most loyal pets. It’s cold out there today. Just read this article about a dog who still attends church after his master died. It’s a heartwarming story why we all love pets… and they love us… even beyond this life.
