About Us

Animal Hospital of Unionville, formerly Unionville Veterinary Clinic founded in 1966.

One of the special reasons why generations of families from far and near keep bringing their “furry kids”  to our hospital is because we have experience (over 150,000 treatments in the past 30 years) and we spend time with you.  The last thing you need is to be rushed through the vet’s like a nameless number. Even imagining this makes us cringe! We are here as a member of your family’s team. We just can’t help but loving pets. Non-pet owners may think we’re crazy when they see our staff talking to our patients and rubbing their bellies as if pets were human children. Since 1966 our love for pets hasn’t changed.

Our pledge is that whenever you have a problem or a question we will be there as a member of your family’s team. We will give you the options and information you need to make the best decision and we acknowledge your feelings in difficult times. We’ve been there.

All of us have pets and families and we fully understand that being a veterinary clinic our role is not only to keep your little guy or gal happy and healthy, but also to make sure your entire human family is happy about all decisions you’ll make with your pets. This sometimes is a balancing act, or as Dr. Marsig puts it “the Art of Veterinary Medicine”.  Every situation is unique and we’re here to help make things as simple and easy and affordable for you and your pet as possible. This is our promise to you, your pet, and to ourselves. Providing high quality veterinary care and superior service to the people and pets of the Markham, Unionville, Stouffville, Richmond Hill, North York, and Scarborough communities.

As veterinarian and team, loving our patients and caring for their families is only one aspect. Our veterinary hospital has developed a reputation of excellence in diagnostics and treatment of a diverse list of conditions. Our Services are comparable to many specialty centres, but because we effectively reduce our overhead, our fees are reasonable (some may think low) for the level of care we provide.

This was a wonderful snapshot. Farid kisses his puppy after the visit, Mary invites the next client into the exam room, and Allison concentrates getting the files ready.

Our services range from routine wellness exams and boarding to surgery and diagnostics. Our patients include most small animal varieties, including  dogs, cats, pocket pets (rabbits, chinchillas, gerbils, mice, rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, skinny pigs, etc.), ferrets, and birds (budgies, cockatiel, parrots, amazon, cockatoo, love birds, conures, African greys, finches, canaries, etc.)  Over the years we have assembled a team of highly skilled, compassionate veterinary professionals who are passionate about what they do. We don’t just think of your pets as patients, but rather as a part of our extended family!

In 1987, when Unionville and Markham grew closer, we moved from across the street into our current 2400 sq. ft. facility. You may want to continue reading the following description, take a virtual tour, or come and see for yourself. After all, you’ll get the best feeling for our people when you meet us.

We now are a dog hospital, a cat hospital, and a family veterinarian for all your pets. We are located north of

Highway 7  right on the park system of the Rouge River and all dogs in our care enjoy at least three daily walks in the park. The interior of our facility is spacious and modern, allowing us to meet all of the veterinary health care needs of our patients in a warm, safe and welcoming environment. We offer a large treatment area where patients are always closely supervised, a state-of-the-art surgical suite, and a modern dental care area. For our boarding guests, cats enjoy a peaceful room with murals of a tropical jungle, while dogs have their own boarding area close to the grooming centre.

Above all, we know all our patients personally and we are talking with them like to our own kids, petting them and making them feel at home.

Throughout our clinic, we have incorporated surface areas that meet the College of Veterinarians of Ontario’s guidelines. These surfaces, including the floors, kennels, cages, countertops, lower portions of walls and exam tables, are specially designed to be easily sanitized.  This makes them impervious to viruses and bacteria and especially safe for your pet’s visit! Our goal is to deliver the best available veterinary care in the cleanest, safest and most comfortable environment possible so that your pet can enjoy a long, happy and healthy life!

CVO-Accrediation-Emblem-Med-C-2xACCREDITATION:  The licensing body for veterinarians in our province conducts regular on-site inspections of our premises. This process is designed to protect you and your animal companions. It ensures that our facilities meet specific standards set forth by our profession including equipment requirements, proper patient record-keeping, safe drug storage, medical reference library and orderly and sanitary premises.  Meeting these standards can require significant investments in time and money, but we didn’t stop there and invested beyond to serve our patients and client with the best care possible.
